Dr. Anil Jasinghe, the Director General of Sri Lanka Health Service yesterday (12th) at the daily media briefing on the Coronavirus outbreak responded to a question on why Sri Lanka not quarantine the Chinese who visit the country. Quarantine process currently only applies to visitors from Italy, South Korea and Iran.
Responding to question Dr. Anil Jasinghe justified decision saying that they take into consideration of how serious is the spread of the deadly virus in a country to determine whether they need to be quarantined or not.
He further added that although China has the highest number of patients, they’ve been successful in containing the spread of the virus, resulting in only 20 confirmed patients being found from China yesterday. Meanwhile, Italy is locked down and about 300,000 Sri Lankans residing there must be given due consideration for quarantine, he said.
