“It’s Fake News” Health Ministry denies statement posted by Dr. Palitha Rajapaksa

Secretary of Ministry of Health clarifies on ‘fake news’ doing rounds on Facebook posted allegedly by Dr Palitha Rajapaksa from Badulla.

“Covid-19 patients won’t be reported in the days coming up as the swab sticks required are not in store”. Dr Palitha Rajapaksa posted on 7th April in his Facebook page.

Many took social media to circulate the post after Sri Lanka didn’t report patients on the 9th & 10th.

Today issuing a press release to the media, Secretary of Ministry of Health Ms. Bhadrani Jayawardena has clarified about the above post saying it’s fake news.

Clarifying further she said that the government has taken internationally acclaimed steps to contain the spread of the deadly virus alongside the health sector and the number of PCR tests done is on the rise.

She also said that these fake news are spread in order to discourage the efforts taken by the government to contain the virus and says legal action will be taken against this particular fake news.

According to the Facebook Profile, Dr Palitha Rajapaksa is currently involved in treating COVID19 patients. Pictures published in the profile shows he is an active member of GMOA and Viyathmaga Organisation that supported President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in the last Presidential Election.
