National Defence College to be established in Visumpaya

Defence Secretary Maj. Gen. (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne pledged Defence Ministry’s fullest support to the construction of proposed National Defence College (NDC) today (27).

Maj. Gen. Gunaratne making his first inspection visit to the proposed National Defence College (NDC) constructions at the Visumpaya, Union Place, discussed the status of work in progress with the Commandant NDC, Maj. Gen. (Retd) Amal Karunasekara, Tri-Forces Commanders and Heads of Tri-Forces Training Directorates at the venue.

During the visit to the colonial style bungalow, encompassing an archaeological value, now an arm of the Defence Ministry, Maj. Gen. Gunaratne reviewed the plan of conversion into an elegant house of NDC and instructed the officials to expedite the work using available resources without harming its former glory and vintage value.

Visumpaya has been used as an official residence for Government Ministers and a residence for visiting heads of states.

Under the Yahapalana Government Visumpaya was used as the office of National Media Center.
