Sri Lanka Cricket’s President Shammi Silva said SLC invested over LKR 450 million towards developing the game of School Cricket during the year 2018 and 2019.

The money was spent on building cricketing infrastructure in schools across the Island, helping Sri Lanka School Cricket Association to run the School Cricket operations, and also finance the conducting of the Under 15 and Under 19 School Cricket Tournaments, held annually.

He was responding to recent allegations that Sri Lanka Cricket has not done enough to develop School Cricket in Sri Lanka.

Among the infrastructure work done includes constructing of 220 side wickets across Island wide Schools, distribution of 300 matting wickets and also 200 Cricket materials bags to School teams. The SLC also provided 125 manual ground rollers, 24 turf mechanical rollers and 25 pitch cover to schools among several other facilities.

According to Mr. Silva, SLC has been constantly engaged with the School Cricket system and conducts regular consultations with relevant stakeholders to develop the game at that level.
