All temporary residents in Colombo and its suburbs should register with the nearest police station, Senior DIG (Western Province) Deshabandu Tennakoon said.
“Those who don’t have their names in the electoral registry should register with the Police” He said speaking to reporters.
Senior DIG said that Police information technology unit will create and maintain a data base on temporary residents living in Colombo & suburbs.
“This will be beneficial to authorities to identify illicit liquor breweries, narcotics, underworld activities and to ensure the national security” he said.
As the first step Police have gathered information of nearly 40,000 temporary residents living in 13 Police sectors in Colombo.
