The Public Health Inspectors Union (PHIU) will launch a trade union action from Monday (29), over a number of unresolved issues, including the measures taken to combat the COVID-19 outbreak.

President of the Union Upul Rohana said all PHI officers will refrain from COVID-19, Dengue and other communicable diseases, and election-related duties as part of the campaign.

Issuing a press release, he further said that the trade union action is being launched due to the failure of the Minister of Health Pavithra Wanniarachchi to resolve the issues of the PHIU, which were brought to her attention on various occasions.

Minister Wanniarachchi agreed during a discussion held on last Tuesday (16) to resolve all the issues highlighted by the PHIU by the end of this Sunday (28), Rohana elaborated.

He further said, however, it is regrettable that there are no signs of the issues being resolved as yet.

As a result, the Executive Board of the Public Health Inspectors Union has decided to launch a trade union action until their issues are resolved, Rohana added. (Newswire)
