A Cabinet Minister from the former “Good Governance” Government has been accused of obtaining Rs. 500 million as commission over a power project in Sri Lanka, the Daily Mirror reported.

Chairman of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) Vijitha Herath yesterday revealed that the former Cabinet Minister had received the commission from investors who funded a solar power generation project in Sri Lanka.

Herath refused to name the Cabinet Minister or the particular project but alleged that the commission had been received for the approval of the project, and added that he takes full responsibility for his allegations.

The CEB will commission several LNG, Coal, Wind, Solar power projects and several other renewable energy plants, and phase out thermal power generation by 2025, he said. (Newswire)
