Two individuals, a soldier and a suspect in Police custody, have died by suicide in two separate incidents in Narahenpita.
The Military said a 22 year- old soldier had died by suicide at the Polhengoda Army camp in Narahenpita using his official weapon.
The officer had died by suicide at 06.00 p.m. yesterday while being engaged in official duties at the camp.
The Military added that it is suspected that the officer, who is a resident of Horowpathana, may have killed himself due to a personal issue.
During the last 2 weeks, two young police officers too were reported to have died by suicide.
Meanwhile, a 32 year -old suspect, who was under custody at the Narahenpita Police Station, had died by suicide last night.
The Police said the suspect had hung himself inside his cell using a lace cord.
The man from Hanwella, had been arrested yesterday on charges of financial fraud, based on a complaint from some woman claiming he had forcefully acquired money over a love affair.
The Police said the body of the deceased has been placed at the Police Mortuary of the Colombo National Hospital, while a post mortem examination will be conducted today. (Newswire)
