The tentative date for the opening of Sri Lanka’s Katunayake International Airport could undergo a change according to Goverment sources, although its re-opening was fixed for the 01st of August.

Assistant Secretary to the President Admiral (Rtd.J) Jayantha Kolambage told media that although August 1st has been stated as the tentative day to re-open the Airport, it could still change.

He said discussions are still ongoing about opening the airport for incoming flights.
He also said that all Sri Lankans abroad who wish to return will be repatriated before the airport is opened for tourists.

Meanwhile the Sunday Lankadeepa Newspaper reported today that Goverment has decided to postpone the August 1st opening of the Airport.
It was stated in the newspaper that out of nearly 50,000 Sri Lankans who wants to come back, only 12,000 have been repatriated so far.
Due to health concerns authorities can handle only a limited number of passengers on a daily basis.
