The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) has warned that there is a significant risk of a second wave of the Coronavirus being created in the country.

The GMOA pointed out that the number of global coronavirus patients has surpassed 10 million, while over 500, 000 COVID-19 deaths have been reported world over.

Issuing a press release, the GMOA said the Ministry of Health has confirmed that the spread of the coronavirus has been completely eliminated from within the community.

The GMOA made a request from the Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health to conduct close to 68,000 PCR tests per month to further ascertain the complete eradication of the virus from within the community, it said.

The GMOA had also discussed with the Secretary to the Ministry of Health the necessary measures required to be taken to enable the conducting of the large volume of PCR tests per month, keeping in mind the upcoming Parliamentary polls, it added.
