Total of 16 COVID-19 patients reported from Rajanganaya

A total of 16 COVID-19 patients have been reported from Rajanganaya in Anuradhapura so far.

Patients with coronavirus have been detected in Rajanganaya after an instructor from the area, employed at the Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre- East Kandakadu, tested positive for COVID-19.

Travel restrictions were imposed in Rajanganaya Yaya 01, 03 and 05 yesterday after COVID-19 patients were detected from the areas.

Meanwhile, the Pattiyapola area in Tangalle was inspected by Public Health Inspectors yesterday after a resident from the area had tested positive for COVID-19.

The individual, who is employed at the Kandakadu Rehabilitation Centre, had arrived at Pattiyapola on 05 July and had thereafter returned to duty.

Following the inspection, 17 persons were placed in quarantine.

The PHI officers also closed down three stores in the area for not adhering to the health guidelines issued on COVID-19.

Meanwhile, Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said a total of 519 persons from the Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre- East Kandakadu have tested positive for COVID-19 so far.

He said 440 among them are inmates, 63 are staff, and 16 are from the Rajanganaya area.

Another 800 persons have been placed under quarantine over the last few days.

The Army Commander said persons who had come into contact with infected persons from the rehabilitation centre and those suspected as possible future patients have thus been placed in quarantine.

He further urged the public to remain vigilant over the next few days and to adhere to the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health.

A total of 29 patients were detected with COVID-19 yesterday alone, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said

Among the patients, 14 were from the Kandakadu rehabilitation centre, 11 from the Senapura treatment and Rehabilitation Centre and 02 from Rajanganaya.

Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said the latest detection has increased the total number of COVID-19 patients detected in Sri Lanka to 2646. (Newswire)
