Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) candidate Attorney Eranda Weliange has called for Capital Punishment to be imposed on those charged with child abuse or sexual abuse.

He said 148 cases of child abuse were reported within the first 15 days of 2020 and 11, 998 cases of sexual abuse have been reported from 2012 to date.

Eranda Weliange said as a youth, lawyer, and politician he feels efforts must be taken in this regard by introducing new laws, passing it in Parliament, and stringently implementing it.

The issues surrounding child abuse and sexual abuse can only be resolved if a society is created in which men in Sri Lanka are able to respect women in the country and also learn to respect relationships such as their mother, wife, or sister, he added. (Newswire)
