A silent protest was held by several members of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), including its Women’s Wing, opposite the Prime Minister’s office today (24).

The protest was held against the recent statement made by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa about SJB leader Sajith Premadasa and his wife Jalani Premadasa.

The protesters charged that the recent comment hurled at the couple was an insult and undermined the reproductive rights of all women.

SJB member Hirunika Premachandra said the statement made by the Prime Minister, who is a father and grandfather himself, was an insult to both men and women.

She further highlighted that this insult has been hurled by a state leader, and called on all men and women to stand up against such statements made by a responsible citizen of Sri Lanka. (Newswire)
