Only 59 female candidates from 05 mainstream Alliances. Which party has the most female candidates?

Nearly 59 female candidates from the 05 mainstream Political Alliances are contesting the General Elections which is scheduled for 05 August 2020.

The National Peoples Power (NPP) has the highest female representation with 16 candidates from a total of 262 candidates.

The United National Party (UNP) is the second highest with 15 female representatives out of 262 candidates.

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) follows next with 14 female candidates from a total of 252 candidates.

The Samagi Jana Balwegaya which has a total of 262 candidates is fielding 10 female candidates.

The Tamil National Alliance with a total of 44 candidates is fielding 4 female candidates at the General Election.

Among the 225 members of Parliament, only 5% was represented by women in the Previous Parliament.

According to global rankings of female representation in Parliament, Sri Lanka ranks 182 out of a total of 193 countries. (Newswire)
