WATCH : Visually impaired voters to cast ballot on their own for the first time

August 4, 2020 at 4:20 PM

The National Election Commission has introduced a new system to assist visually impaired voters to cast their ballots on their own during the General Elections 2020.

The special system has been introduced for the elections tomorrow (05) on a request made by the Sri Lanka Federation of the Visually Handicapped to protect the confidentiality of visually impaired voters during polling time.

Under the special system, visually impaired voters will be provided a special stencil into which they can insert their ballot paper, feel the grooves and boxes cut on the stencil, and mark their vote.

They will be able to cast their ballots on their own for the first time without the assistance of election officers at polling stations while preserving their confidentiality. (Newswire)
