The International Cricket Council (ICC) Anti-Corruption Unit Coordinator of Investigations Steve Richardson has praised the new Minister of Sports Namal Rajapaksa’s vision for local sports in Sri Lanka.

Minister Rajapaksa today tweeted that he intends to uphold the vision set out in the ‘Saubhagye Dakma’ manifesto and ensure the positive growth in all areas of Sports, concentrate on an array of sports, and not just on the popular sports.

His tweet was in response to a congratulatory message from former Minister of Sports Harin Fernando on his Ministerial portfolio.

Former Minister Harin Fernando had earlier tweeted that he congratulates Namal Rajapaksa on his new portfolio of being the new Sports Minister.

“I hope he upholds the work we did in creating an environment where sports was free of politics and corruption. I am certain you will do great as you yourself are a sportsman. All the best’, Harin Fernando further said.

Responding to Minister Namal Rajapakse’s response to Fernando, ICC Anti-Corruption Unit Coordinator of Investigations Steve Richardson tweeted that it was good to see the Minister Rajapaksa commit to corruption free sport in Sri Lanka.

“If he can achieve that he will deserve the same credit as former Minister Harin Fernando with all that he did. I wish him well with it’, Richardson added. (Newswire)
