A 24-year-old youth has been arrested on charges of killing his girlfriend by slitting her throat.
The Madampe Police said the youth is said to have dragged the girl off the motorcycle she was traveling on and had thereafter attacked her with a knife.
The man had reportedly waited in a three-wheeler hidden behind a transformer to ambush the girl.
The suspect is said to have consumed poison with the intent of killing himself following the incident.
The deceased has been identified as a 22-year- old resident of Dummalasuriya, who was employed as a bookkeeper at a coir factory in the area.
The suspect is said to have attacked the woman after she had broken off her nearly three-month-long affair with him a month ago. (Newswire)
