A 72-year-old woman, who was living alone in the Wewatta area in Mahiyanganaya, has been raped by an unknown individual.
The Mahinyanganaya Police said the individual has fled the area following the incident.
The suspect is said to have entered the woman’s house at midnight yesterday (27) by removing the temporary galvanized sheet placed on a window.
The Police said the man had thereafter bound the woman to the bed she was sleeping on and had raped her.
The victim has been admitted to the Mahiyanganaya Base Hospital.
A special Police team has been deployed to apprehend the suspect who is assumed to be a 45-year-old man. (Newswire)
