Speaker reveals real cost of parliament meal

Speaker of the House Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena today revealed that the cost of a meal provided in Parliament for MPs has been estimated at Rs. 296 per meal for per person.

The Speaker informed Parliament today that the amount has been estimated during costing conducted specifically in this regard.

The costing was done due to various remarks made recently by Government and Opposition MPs over the cost of meals provided to MPs in Parliament.

Speaker Abeywardena further instructed relevant officials to reveal the correct costing in the future with regard to meals provided in Parliament.

Meanwhile, questions were also raised on the allotting of front row seats to Opposition members and murder convict and Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna MP Premalal Jayasekara being denied permission to attend today’s sitting.

The Vote on Account to cover Government Expenses for the next 04 months that was submitted by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday (27) is being taken up for debate in Parliament for the second consecutive day today. (Newswire)
