State Minister of Prison Reforms and Prisoner’s Rehabilitation Dr. Sudarshini Fernandopulle has conducted an inspection of the G-ward of the Welikada prison.
The inmates at the G- Ward are reportedly aged between 76- 90, with a majority of the inmates suffering from various illnesses such as Kidney, eyesight failure, hernia, other lifetime ailments, and paralysis.
The State Minister is said to have focused special attention on the inmates suffering in this regard and had advised prison officials to provide special medical treatment where necessary.
She further instructed two inmates in serious condition to be immediately transferred to the prison hospital.
State Minister Fernandopulle had also visited the Chapel Unit of the prison, where she held discussions with the inmates to ascertain their needs.
She thereafter instructed prison officials to carryout necessary measures in this regard. (NewsWire)
