The writ application filed by Samagi Jana Blawegaya (SJB) Matale district candidate Ranjith Aluwihare was taken up for hearing by the Court of Appeal yesterday (16).

In his application, Aluwihare has called for a recount of the SJB’s preferential votes polled in the Matale district at the August 05 General Elections.

SJB candidate Rohini Kaviratne won the only seat for the party from the district, while Aluwihare lost by 416 votes.

Aluwihare claims that polling agents representing him were not allowed at the counting centre, but Kaviratne’s agents were permitted.

Notice was issued on the respondents, returnable on 05th November 2020.

The District Secretary of Matale, the Deputy Returning Officer for Matale District, the Commissioner General of Elections, and the General Secretary of the Samagi Jana Balavegaya have been cited as respondents. (NewsWire)
