The State Pharmaceuticals Corporation (SPC) has introduced a locally-produced Gabapentin 300mg, to boost local production of pharmaceuticals in Sri Lanka..

The medicine was manufactured under a new program introduced by the State Ministry of Pharmaceutical Production, Supply, and Regulation to produce Sri Lanka’s own medicine.

‘Gabapentin’, a drug used for neurological diseases has become the first medicine to be developed under the project.

The drug had previously been imported from overseas at a cost of between Rs. 65 million – Rs. 50 million by the private sector and Rs. 15 million by the state sector.

The Government intends to halt the import of the drug in future as the SPMC successfully manufactured the drug locally and is expected to meet the necessary local demand in the country. (NewsWire)
