Govt MP Prof. Charitha Herath appointed as COPE chairman

Government MP Prof. Charitha Herath was appointed as the Chairman of the Commitee on Public Enterprises (COPE) a short while ago.

His name was proposed by Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage & seconded by State Minister Jayantha Samaraweera at the 1st meeting of the COPE Committee of the 9th Parliament.

Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa had earlier requested the Government to grant the chairmanship of the COPE committe to an opposition MP as done by the previous Government.

The 22- member Committee was appointed after a proposal submitted on 27 August was approved by Parliament.

The members of the COPE committee of the new Parliament are as follows.
