The Government will not be able to control the increasing prices of the second-hand vehicle market due to the recent decision to temporarily suspend the importation of vehicles, State Minister of Transport Dilum Amunugama said.

Speaking to reporters in Kaduwela, the State Minister said there was a significant increase in the second-hand vehicle market.

Customer have been urged to act cautiously keeping in mind the current situation as the temporary suspension is not a permanent measure, it has only been imposed as a measure to stabilize cash flow, he explained.

State Minister Amunugama further said that the value of the Rupee remains at a satisfactory level following the temporary suspension of vehicle imports.

“The Rupee stabilized due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The suspension of vehicle imports will be relaxed after the pandemic situation is brought under control,” he said. (NewsWire)
