Rishad’s brother arrested over Easter attacks released

Former Minister Rishad Bathiudeen’s brother Riyaj Bathiudeen who was arrested on suspicion in connection to the 2019 Easter Sunday terror attacks has been released from the custody of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), the Lankadeepa reported.

The CID said that Riyaj Bathiudeen was released around 05.00 p.m. yesterday (29) after investigations pertaining to him were completed.

Riyaj Bathiudeen was arrested from his residence in Puttalam in April 2020 by the CID and was detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act for over 05 months.

In April 2020, Police Spokesman SSP Jaliya Senaratne stated during a media briefing that investigations have revealed that the suspects had maintained connections with the suicide bombers involved in the 2019 Easter Sunday terror attacks. (NewsWire)
