A Police curfew or islandwide lockdown will not be imposed in Colombo or any other areas during the weekend, the National Operations Centre for the Prevention of COVID-19 (NOCPC) announced.

Head of the NOCPC and Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said an islandwide lockdown will not be imposed unless a large number of COVID-19 cases are detected from the areas.

A weekend lockdown or Police curfew will only continue in areas where a curfew is currently enforced in the country.

Army Commander Silva said it was still uncertain as to how far the coronavirus has spread following the outbreak in Minuwangoda.

As a result, the public have been requested to remain cautious and strictly adhere to the guidelines issued by the Health Ministry, he added. (NewsWire)
