WATCH : Police reveal details of shootout involving Makandure Madush

The Magisterial inquiry into the death of drug kingpin Samarasinghe Arachchige Lakshitha alias Makandure Madush was conducted by the judge of Court No.4 of the Hulftsdorp Courts.

Madush, who is a notorious underworld figure, was shot dead during crossfire between the Police and unidentified individuals during a drug raid at the Apple-Watte housing scheme in Maligawatte early this morning.

Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said the magisterial inquiry into Madush’s death was conducted at the crime scene today, while the judge had also visited the Police morgue to inspect the body.

Two Police constables who had suffered minor injuries have been admitted to the Colombo National Hospital.

A special team attached to the Maligawatte Police, headed by the OIC of the station, has been appointed to conduct investigations into the incident.

In addition, the Colombo Crimes Division has also commenced investigations into the motorbike that was found at the crime scene.

DIG Ajith Rohana further said that Makandure Madush’s wife has identified the body of the deceased.

The body is to be handed over to relatives following the conclusion of the magisterial inquiry and the autopsy, he added. (NewsWire)
