The Police have launched a special operation to nab residents of the Western Province who travelled out of the Province ahead of the quarantine curfew that was enforced from today.

Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said that many individuals had left the Western Province, despite being requested to remain within the Province during this period.

The special operation is being conducted to obtain information on people who had left the Western Province for the long weekend by avoiding Police road blocks that were setup in various areas to prevent such movement.

The operation will focus on guest houses, hotels, and other accommodation where people from the Western Province may have lodged after leaving the Province.

The special operation will also record information on those who had left the Western Province on Thursday and Friday, once they reenter the Province on Monday (02) after the curfew is lifted, he said.

DIG Ajith Rohana added that stringent action will be taken against those found to have violated the quarantine regulations by travelling out of the Western Province, especially Colombo. (NewsWire)
