Group of prison inmates at the Welikada Prison test positive for Covid

A group of prison inmates at the Welikada Prison have tested positive for the coronavirus.

Commissioner General of Prisons Thushara Upuldeniya said that the group consists of 2 male inmates and 4 female inmates.

A prison official attached to the Welikada Prison has also tested positive for COVID-19.

All female inmates at the prison will be subjected to PCR tests, he added.

Meanwhile, the Central Mail Exchange of Colombo has been temporarily closed from today over Covid fears.

Postmaster General Ranjith Ariyaratne said that the decision was taken after 2 staff members of the Central Mail Exchange had contracted the coronavirus.

He said the Central Mail Exchange of Colombo will remain closed until further notice. (NewsWire)
