Former Sri Lanka Captain Mahela Jayawardana has backed the upcoming Lanka Premier League T20 cricket Tournament, stating it is a step in the right direction.
Speaking to NewsWire, Mahela Jayawardana said that the Lanka Premier League will be a great opportunity for young Sri Lankan cricketers to perform on the big stage.
When asked about some big names pulling out of the tournament, Jayawardena said with the current pandemic situation and travel restrictions imposed as a result, it is expected.
He said that once the tournament commences this year, it will gradually improve over the next few years.
Mahela Jayawardana is currently in quarantine after arriving in Sri Lanka after another successful stint with the Mumbai Indians. (NewsWire)
