A heated argument erupted in Parliament today when Opposition MPs raised concerns over the alleged appointment of a prominent local businessman to the Public Services Commission.

Samagi Jana Balawegaya MPs Manusha Nanayakkara and S.M. Marrikkar raised concerns that the alleged appointment of the businessman involved in the tender process to import test kits, may have unwarranted influence on state officials.

However, Speaker of the Parliament Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena announced that questions pertaining to Commissions cannot be raised in Parliament, following which a heated argument ensued.

Despite a list of names being circulated among media an official confirmation is yet to be made on the appointments. (NewsWire)
