Quarantine period for foreign returnees to be reduced

A decision has been taken to reduce the mandatory quarantine process from 28- 14 days for Sri Lankans who return from overseas, the National Operations Centre for the Prevention of COVID-19 (NOCPC) said.

Head of the Centre Army Commander Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva said an official statement in this regard is expected to be issued by the Director General of Health Services today.

He said that under the new system, a Sri Lankan arriving from overseas will be required to undergo the mandatory 14-days quarantine process at the end of which a PCR tests will be conducted.

If the individual has tested negative, then he will not require to undergo home-quarantine for another 14- days as previously practiced, the Army Commander said.

The NOCPC Head said multiple discussions are underway to reopen the Katunayake Airport for tourists in the coming weeks.

Lt. Gen Shavendra Silva said discussions are also underway with Airport officials to reduce the delays faced at the airport by individuals returning from overseas. (NewsWire)
