Three Ukrainians from first tourist group test positive for Covid

Three tourists who arrived in Sri Lanka from Ukraine recently, have tested positive for COVID-19.

Health Services Deputy Director General Dr. Hemantha Herath told reporters that the tourists are part of the first batch of Ukrainian tourists who arrived in Sri Lanka.

The infected tourists have been transferred to treatment facilities setup at the hotels designated for their quarantine procedure.

Nearly 185 tourists arrived from Ukraine on Monday (28), being the first batch of tourists to arrive in Sri Lanka after a period of nine-months.

The second batch of 204 tourists from Ukraine arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday (29).

The Government has reopened Sri Lanka for tourism from this week after its borders were shut due to the coronavirus pandemic since March 2020.

Under a pilot project, the Government is expected to welcome tourists from various countries to ascertain its capability of handling flights and tourists amidst the coronavirus pandemic. (NewsWire)
