The cabinet of Ministers has granted approval to amend two key laws in Sri Lanka.

Cabinet approval has been granted to amend the Land Acquisition Act and the Assistance to and Protection of Victims of Crime and Witnesses Act, No. 04 of 2015.

The Land Acquisition Act is to be amended to simplify the process of acquiring land in Sri Lanka.

The amendment will minimize the time taken for the procedure, such as land acquisition process and the payment of compensation.
Meanwhile, Section 10 of the Assistance to and Protection of Victims of Crime and Witnesses Act, No. 04 of 2015 will be amended as approved by the cabinet.

The amendment will allow suspects to file bail applications at the High Court instead of the Appeal Court. (NewsWire)
