Relatives of politicians get postings at overseas Sri Lankan Missions

A number of relatives of politicians have been appointed to postings at Sri Lankan Missions overseas, according to reports in Daily Mirror and Colombo Telegraph.

Among those said to have been received appointments are Dulmini Attanayake, daughter of Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Tissa Attanayake, Randhula Gunawardane, daughter of Minister Bandula Gunawardane, Pavithra Ranatunge, Daughter of Minister Prasanna Ranatunga and Amila Dissanayake, brother of Minister Duminda Dissanayake.

Also receiving an appointment at a Sri Lankan Mission overseas is Subashini Samaranayake, daughter of Director General of the Presidential Media Unit, Mohan Samaranayake and Thulasi Samarasinghe, the nephew of former Navy Chief and Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Australia, Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe.

However, a Foreign Ministry official has insisted that the political appointments were given to suitable people backed with the required experience or educational qualifications, according to the Daily Mirror news report. (NewsWire)
