A governing body will be established for the Lanka Premier League (LPL) within the next month, Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa informed Parliament today.

He further said a date has been proposed in August to hold the Lanka Premier League 2021.

Commenting on the allegations raised with regard to the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) over the Lanka Premier League 2020, he said the LPL was staged at a time when cricket was at a standstill in Sri Lanka and after a period of 8 years.

The Sports Minister said Sri Lanka staged a cricket tournament during the Covid pandemic, while other nations were pondering how to resume sports activities.

He further said that committees will also be appointed to govern other sports, such as Volleyball, beach volleyball, Kabaddi and Rugger. (NewsWire)
