Sri Lanka Cricket officials have requested former captain Angelo Mathews to captain the Sri Lanka T20 team in West Indies.

Newly appointed T20 Captain Dasun Shanaka is yet to receive his transit Visa to the United States of America, further delaying his participation in the West Indies tour.

It’s now confirmed that Dasun Shanaka will miss the T20 series.

A Vice Captain for the Sri Lanka T20 side has also not been named for the West Indies tour.

Former T20 Vice Captain Niroshan Dickwella, former Skipper Thisara Perera, and One Day International Captain Dimuth Karunaratne were leading contenders to be named as the T20 skipper for the Caribbean series, in place of Shanaka.

But now it’s confirmed that Sri Lanka Cricket officials have requested former captain to lead the team.

“We told him it’s a national crisis and we hope he agrees to lead the team, we believe he is the ideal candidate” Senior SLC official told NewsWire.

Meanwhile Sri Lankan Cricketers are still in quarantine after arriving in the West Indies.

PCR results of the players are expected any time today, after which they will be cleared to begin practices. (NewsWire)
