A 56-year-old resident of Eravur has been arrested for promoting the LTTE on social media.
Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said the suspect, identified as Navaneethapillai alias Theatre Mohan, has been arrested under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA).
He is wanted over 14 crimes, reported especially in the Batticaloa, Karadinayaru, and Eravur Police areas.
The suspect’s iphone and ipad have been taken into the custody of the Eravur Police.
DIG Ajith Rohana said the Criminal Investigations Department has been instructed to send a team of experts from the Computer Crimes Division to assist the Eravur Police with the investigation.
He said the suspect will be detained at the Eravur Police station under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
