Special quarantine operation to inspect public places in Western Province

A special quarantine operation has been conducted in nearly 1093 public places in the Western Province.

Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said the special operation was conducted at beaches, public parks, restaurants and other public places from 03-06pm yesterday.

He said the operation was conducted to monitor if the public were adhering to the quarantine regulations.

Nearly 6326 were monitored during the inspection conducted on 1093 public places.

Among them, 38 had been arrested for failing to wear face masks and for not maintaining social distancing, while six were arrested for selling food in an unsafe manner to the public.

Another 12 people from 3 different places have been arrested for hosting public gatherings and parties with alcohol in violation of the health guidelines.

DIG Ajith Rohana said nearly 4306 were warned by the Police for violating the quarantine regulations.

He said 215 people were arrested in the 24-hour period ending at 06am today for not wearing face masks and failing to maintain social distancing.

The Police Spokesman said the special quarantine operation at public places will be conducted today as well, and urged the public to cooperate with the Police. (NewsWire)
