Gyms, salons and other public places inspected in WP

A special operation has been conducted in the Western Province (WP) to inspect public institutions.

Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said 2103 institutions frequently visited by the public were inspected from 04-07 pm yesterday.

Inspections were carried out on 188 gymnasiums, 371 salons, 182 beauty parlors, 300 garages, 185 service centres, 74 laundromats, 141 tailoring shops, and 201 communication centres.

Nearly 3473 people at the public institutions were inspected, while 7 were arrested for violating quarantine rules by not wearing face masks or maintaining social distancing.

DIG Ajith Rohana called on the managements and employees of the institutions visited by the public to strictly follow the health guidelines.

Meanwhile, another special operation was conducted to inspect street vendors operating at bus stands and railway stations in the Western Province.

The Police Spokesman said 275 street vendors inspected by the Police and health authorities yesterday.

DIG Ajith Rohana said Rapid Antigen Tests were conducted on 72 street vendors who were selected at random.

All 72 of them had tested negative for COVID-19, he said.

DIG Rohana further said all quarantine operations will be continued today as well. (NewsWire)
