More public places inspected in the Western Province

The Police have conducted several quarantine operations in the Western Province, targeting public institutions, street vendors, and vehicles entering and exiting the province.

Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said 2045 places frequented by the public were inspected during the special operation conducted from 5-7 pm yesterday.

The Police together with the health authorities have inspected salons, beauty parlors, garages, tyre repair centres, laundromats, communication centres, and tailoring shops.

DIG Ajith Rohana said 3269 people were warned for violating quarantine regulations, while 63 people were arrested.

Meanwhile, 103 street vendors operating in public places in the Western Province were also inspected yesterday.

DIG Ajith Rohana said ten street vendors were selected at random and were subjected to Rapid Antigen Tests, but all results had returned negative.

He said another special quarantine operation was conducted to inspect vehicles entering and exiting the Western Province.

Nearly 571 vehicles had been inspected at 12 entry/exit points of the Western Province.

The Police spokesman said 1394 passengers were also inspected, while 205 passengers were warned for violating quarantine regulations.

DIG Ajith Rohana said 435 people were arrested across the country for failing to wear face masks or for not maintaining social distance, in the 24-hour period ending at 06 am today.

He said all quarantine operations will be conducted today as well. (NewsWire)
