Almost 17% of all symptomatic coronavirus patients in Sri Lanka require oxygen for treatment, health officials said.

The State Ministry of Primary Healthcare, Epidemics, and COVID Disease Control said among them between 4% and 5% of the patients are directed to intensive care units (ICU).

Nearly 25% to 28% of all COVID-19 patients in Sri Lanka are symptomatic, it further revealed.

A discussion headed by State Minister Dr. Sudarshini Fernandopulle was held yesterday to review the measures implemented as well as those that need to be implemented in view of the third wave of the coronavirus.

The discussion focused on the speed at which COVID-19 was spreading, PCR feasibility, quarantine, hospitalization and treatment, oxygen levels, and death rate.

The officials had also discussed the need for admission criteria, transferring criteria, and discharge criteria.

Attention had also been directed on issuing public health guidelines on measures to be implemented in the event of strict movement restrictions or complete lockdown. (NewsWire)
