Bus heading to Colombo taken into custody with 48 passengers

A bus with 48 passengers has been detained by the Police for violating the islandwide travel restriction currently in effect in Sri Lanka.

The Police said the bus was traveling from Akkaraipattu to Colombo despite public transportation being suspended during the travel ban.

The bus was seized in Namal-Oya in the Inginiyagala Police area at 11 pm yesterday.

The 48 passengers, and the driver, and the conductor of the bus have been arrested for violating the quarantine law.  

The Police said the suspects will be produced before the Ampara Magistrate’s Court today.

The Inginiyagala Police is conducting further investigations into the incident. (NewsWire)
