Vanni District MP Cader Masthan has tested positive for COVID-19.

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP had tested positive after undergoing a Rapid Antigen Test. He has also been subjected to a PCR test and is currently awaiting the result.

Sergeant-at-Arms of the Sri Lanka Parliament Narendra Fernando told NewsWire that they are unable to reach MP Masthan to ascertain if he had contracted the virus.

He said the MP had attended the afternoon session of Parliament proceedings that was held on Tuesday (08).

Fernando said, however, contact tracing has commenced to identify the Parliamentarians who had come into contact with the infected MP.

He added that necessary steps will be taken to inform those who had come into contact with MP Masthan to isolate themselves, as a precautionary measure.

Cader Masthan is the latest MP to test positive for COVID-19 among Parliamentarians.

Earlier, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MPs Sajith Premadasa and Nalin Bandara had tested positive along with their spouses. (NewsWire)
