Importers have requested to increase the prices of all imported essential commodities, Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardana said.
The Minister revealed this while responding to questions raised by journalists following an observation tour of Lanka Sathosa yesterday (17).
“We have received requests to increase prices of all goods. The production process and supply chain in the entire world has been hampered. This is the reason for the request to increase prices,” Minister Gunawardana said.
Pointing out that shipping costs have extremely increased, he added that container charges have also increased by 300%.
“The entire world is facing a crisis in food production. As a Government, we have reduced prices of whatever possible goods after discussing with producers,” he further said. (NewsWire)
