The Sri Lanka National Team has been transferred from the Taj Samudra Hotel to the Cinnamon Grand following the Covid scare.

However, the visiting Indian team will remain at the Taj Samudra Hotel, which has been used as the team hotel for the India-Sri Lanka series.

Two members of the coaching staff, including batting coach Grant Flower have tested positive upon their return to the country after completing the recently concluded England Tour.

Grant Flower was the first to test positive, after which a data analyst of the team tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday and is presently undergoing due medical protocols. He is the second support staff member of the team to test positive.

The SLC conducted PCR tests on all cricketers and other coaching staff on Thursday (08) following the detection of Grant Flower, while all test results had returned negative, except for the data analyst. A second PCR test is due tomorrow (11).

It has been reported that batting coach Grant Flower had refused to take the Sputnik V Covid vaccine which was offered, and had insisted on obtaining the Pfizer vaccine. Medical experts have urged officials to take whatever vaccine that is currently available in Sri Lanka.

SLC Secretary Mohan de Silva said that in the event that there are more positive cases leading up to the first ODI on 13 July, they were preparing to field an alternate team.

He said the squads have commenced practising in Dambulla and in Colombo and are placed in a bio-bubble. (NewsWire)
