The Wattala Police has arrested three individuals who had impersonated Police officers and had carried out multiple robberies.

The Police said one suspect who was in possession of a fake Police Identity card has used it to identify the group as Police officers to the victims.

They had thereafter handcuffed the victims, escorted them to a less crowded area, and had then robbed them of their jewellery and money.

Investigations have revealed that the suspects have targeted people travelling in three-wheelers and motorcycles.

The suspects are said to have been involved in 17 such robberies reported in the Wattala, Modara, and Wellampitiya Police areas.

The Police said 40 grams of gold jewellery, 2 motorcycles, and 2 sets of handcuffs have been retrieved from the suspects’ possession.

The suspects will be produced before the Welisara Magistrate’s Court today. (NewsWire)
