Thirty-six (36) statements have been recorded thus far in connection to the death of the 16-year-old domestic worker who was employed at the Colombo residence of former Minister Rishad Bathiudeen, the Police said.

Police spokesman SDIG Ajith Rohana said the wife of Bathiudeen, his father-in-law, and brother-in-law have been arrested so far over the death.

The suspects who were earlier detained under a court order to be interrogated will be produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court today.

SDIG Ajith Rohana said the investigations have uncovered the involvement of other suspects in connection to the incident.

He further said that investigations are also underway into the alleged sexual abuse of a 22-year-old girl who was employed at the residence prior to the 16-year-old girl who had died.

The brother-in law of Parliamentarian Rishad Bathiudeen has been accused of sexually abusing the girl at the same Colombo residence of the MP and has been arrested in this regard.

The Police spokesman said multiple investigations are underway into the death of the domestic maid and other incidents of sexual abuse that had reportedly occurred at the MP’s residence. (NewsWire)
