Investigations have revealed that 11 women had served as domestic workers at MP Rishad Bathiudeen’s Colombo residence, including the 16-year-old girl who recently died of burn injuries.

The Police said it has been found that the women had worked at the residence of the former Minister between 2010 to 2021.

Special investigation teams that were deployed to record statements in the Diyagama area are said to have recorded the statements of five of the women who had served as domestic maids at Bathiudeen’s house.

Meanwhile, special Police protection has been provided to the grave of the 16-year-old victim in the Diyagama area in Nuwara Eliya.

The Police said arrangements have been made for the exhumation of the body tomorrow (31) under the supervision of the Nuwara Eliya Magistrate.

A fresh postmortem will thereafter be conducted by a 3-member expert panel.

The Police said investigations will be continued into the death of the 16-year-old girl in terms of the sexual abuse uncovered in the first postmortem report

They added that investigations will also focus on the harassment, including sexual abuse and physical assault, on any of the other maids who had previously worked at Bathiudeen’s house. (NewsWire)
