Another woman who had been employed as a domestic maid at MP Rishad Bathiudeen’s Colombo residence has accused the Parliamentarian’s brother-in-law of sexually abusing her during her employment period.

Police spokesman Senior DIG Ajith Rohana said this is the second woman to reveal that she had been sexually abused by the suspect.

Investigations into the death of the 16-year-old domestic maid employed at Bathiudeen’s residence have revealed that 11 women had been employed between 2009-2021 as domestic maids.

Among them, a 22-year-old girl had first revealed that she had been sexually abused by Bathiudeen’s brother-in-law.

Following statements recorded from the 11 maids, another woman among them, a resident of Diyagama, had revealed that she too had been sexually abused by the man.

Investigations have been launched into the statement, while the woman, who had worked at the residence between 2009-2010, has been sent for a medical examination.

Senior DIG Ajith Rohana went on to say that further investigations have revealed that three women who had worked as domestic maids at Bathiudeen’s residence have died.

He said one woman had died due to cancer, while another had committed suicide after leaving her employment at Bathiudeen’s residence, and the third victim is the 16-year-old girl from Diyagama.

The Police spokesman said statements have been recorded from all 11 maids as of yesterday.

He added that the report of the fresh post-mortem examination conducted by an expert panel into the death of the 16-year-old girl will be received soon.

The victim had died after being admitted to the Colombo National Hospital with severe burn injuries.

The first post-mortem examination conducted into the death had revealed that she had been sexually abused over a long period of time.

Thereafter, MP Bathiudeen’s wife, father-in-law, and brother-in-law, along with the agent who had brought the girl for employment to the residence, were arrested and remanded. (NewsWire)
